Drafted 3rd overall in 1983 by the New York Islanders, Patrick Michael LaFontaine went on to have a Hall of Fame worthy 16 year playing career. In addition to being elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2003, Pat also won a Gold medal in the World Cup of Hockey in 1996 and was a 5 time NHL All-Star.

But all of that, while impressive, is not his best trait. He is an even better human being and in 1997, LaFontaine founded the Companions in Courage Foundation, an organization that builds interactive game rooms in children’s hospitals throughout North America. We reached out to Pat to see if he would donate some of his time to sign autographs to directly benefit a cause near and dear to SportsGraphing and he responded immediately. If you are interested in this autographed item from Mr LaFontaine, I strongly urge you to vist his Companions in Courage Foundation website as well.

All proceeds from this item goes directly to The Vladimir Konstantinov Special Needs Trust that will be used for the ongoing care of Vladdie. Many of you know, he was involved in a horrific limousine crash just six days after the Red Wings 1997 Stanley Cup victory. As you can imagine that accident has changed his and his family’s life forever. Over the years, and with a lot of therapy, he has improved but there are still challenges.
