Jim Kaat, nicknamed “Kitty,” is an American former professional baseball player and television sports commentator. He played as a left-handed pitcher for the Washington Senators/Minnesota Twins (1959–1973), Chicago White Sox (1973–1975), Philadelphia Phillies (1976–1979), New York Yankees (1979–1980), and St. Louis Cardinals (1980–1983). His 25-year playing career spanned four decades.
An All-Star for three seasons as well as a Gold Glove winner for 16 seasons, he was the AL leader in shutouts in 1962, and the AL leader in wins/complete games in 1966. In addition to his 283 career wins, he has three 20-win seasons.
Kaat was elected by the Golden Era Committee as a 2022 Hall of Fame inductee.
